the room i was given was not as expected , it had a view of a concrete wall and felt quite outdated. the staff member i contacted about this issue did not speak english , which was difficult. i also found multiple insect bites on my face after my stay , and there was a lack of clear information about the hotel services.

somewhat underwhelming stay

dusty room concrete wall
The room i received did not resemble the photos online and that was disheartening. it looked old and dusty, i even spotted cobwebs, a bit much. the view from my room on the upper floor overlooked a concrete wall, so that was not good. also, i woke up with several insect bites on my face and the staff didn't speak any english when i tried to ask for assistance. That was really isolating.

provided yukata prompt staff private ceremony
I appreciated the provided yukata and slippers. It made moving around very convenient! Breakfast was served in the room each morning. The staff were very prompt. A PRIVATE tea ceremony occurred . It was EXTREMELY well done.
The walls were thin. I could hear other guests sometimes.

Authentic Ryokan Experience!!!

friendly staff convenient luggage storage delicious breakfast
I loved the staff, the area, and the building. I arrived early, and they gladly stored my luggage, so I could explore the city. Upon my return, they had already placed my bags in my room, a nice touch. I ordered breakfast and selected the traditional Japanese meal. The meals were freshly cooked and served warm in my room. The staff explained each dish and poured warm tea for me.
The room could use some upgrades. It felt a bit dated.
Facilities
9/10
The hotel provides a traditional tea room with a rich history, and the garden is quaint. The baths were open and available for use. There is also a mini guide of the area.
Rooms
9/10
The rooms have a traditional Ryokan-style design, perfect for immersing in Japanese culture, including a tatami mat floor and futon bed. Guests are provided with a yakata and haori to wear , which are replaced daily. I really enjoyed the layout of the room.
Location
10/10
This location is in a nice quiet spot in the middle of Gion. It is close to both train and bus routes. Arashiyama, the Inari shrine, and Nara are easily accessible from this Ryokan. I found the area super central, yet the street was calm.
Dining
10/10
The Japanese breakfast was delicious, and the hotel brings tea to your room each morning. If you select the breakfast option, you can choose between Japanese or Western fare. The staff will check each morning if you'd like to change your preferences.
